We started Tin Roof Recording in 2017 as a small studio space for family and friends to record their personal projects. As our skills and gear list grew, we began to have more requests from local bands that wanted us to record them. We were renting a small 500sqft space to begin with when in 2019 we decided to expand and rented an additional space that nearly doubled our size. In 2021, we ended up acquiring the entire building and began the construction of a new large high ceiling tracking room from the ground up. Along with this large room we also built two isolation rooms for guitar cabinets and vocal recording. Since the construction of our new room, it has been off to the races for Tin Roof Recording. We believe we now have the best drum tracking room in Northern Nevada!
We are a true “hybrid studio” in that we use the best of both the analogue and digital domains of the recording and mixing process. Everything we record goes through an analogue signal chain of premium microphone preamps and compressors before it hits the interface and the computer. We like to treat the computer like a “tape machine” in that it is the last step in our recording process, but with the advantage of having endless “tape”!
In a world where everyone has a laptop and a “studio” in their bedroom capable of recording music remotely, at Tin Roof Recording we still believe the true magic of making great music comes from human interaction with everyone together in a studio sharing ideas.
If you’re looking for this type of experience in a professional studio environment that still has the comfort and safety of your bedroom where you can freely express your artistic ideas, come visit us at Tin Roof Recording!
Meet the Engineer
I have been playing the drums on and off my entire life and still love playing…but I must admit that my drumming has taken a back seat to my love for recording in recent years. In 2016 I rented a small space to use for rehearsal and recording small projects. Now almost ten years later I am operating a full service recording studio! I spent those years as a sponge, reading every book I could get my hands on, taking online courses and listening to endless podcasts about recording, mixing and mastering. I also spent this time honing my skills at the best “recording school” around- Tin Roof Recording! Books will only get you so far and there is no better way to learn than actually doing the hands-on work in a real studio. I couldn’t be more proud of what we have built here at Tin Roof and can't wait to help make your next recording project the best that it can be!
